It looks like one of those intricate Moroccan tilings that you see at the Alhambra - but it is a simplified version based on a 60 degree triangle which could be worked out easily on triangle graph paper. Many of the islamic tile patterns are far more complex, with many more points in the circle. I've collected loads of them on a Pinterest board here.
The fabrics I am using are mostly Oakshott scraps. I find these much easier for small piecing as the fabric is thinner than quilting cotton - and those tiny triangles around the central hexagon are - well, tiny. But any solid that fits the colour scheme will go in.
Three units are together at the moment. I would like it to get bigger but we will see.
I'm linking up with Lily's Quilts Fresh Sewing Day and also with Jessica's Monday Morning Star Count.
A nice bright EPP design, will be good to see it develop.
ReplyDeleteYou have the best design ideas! I like the colors and the shapes. Cute kitty.
ReplyDeleteWonderful stars.

So nice to see there are other who still use pencils and paper in their design! Count me in. I like where it's going.

very pretty blocks you are making. I hope the cat didn't try to steal thread like ours;)
ReplyDeleteI totally get the inspiration. I was in Spain in March and April last year - taking photos of tile patterns in the Alhambra and other places in Andalucia as only a crazy quilter would.
ReplyDeleteAlhambra is high on my list of places to visit, wouldn't this be a lovely project to travel there with?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work as always.
ReplyDeleteOmigosh! That is so gorgeous!
