Week 26 EPP - Quilting

This project is now officially 6 months old.  I never thought it would take so long.  Things might speed up now that I have started machine quilting.  The plan is to quilt each block individually before joining them up.  Some of the pieced blocks are going to be a challenge, so I started with two patterns where I could see how to do it.

 Diamonds for this one...

...and a simple cross hatch for this one.  The quilting has pulled it a bit to one side but - I'm strong - I will pull it back.

I'm using cotton wadding (batting) so I can iron it to beggary when I join the blocks together.  The one I'm using promises 1% shrinkage which I think will be OK.  More worried about the colour running - reds and indigo?  Gulp.

Not a clue how I can quilt this one though - I can't see a straight line anywhere.  Ideas appreciated.

Linking up with Jessica for the Monday Morning Link Up.

  3. How courageous you are to quilt atop those lovely pieced treasures. Looks wonderful though.
No idea on the chain link block either, unless you disregard the pieced pattern and do something all over-ish.

Oh Miss Ted! A sweater AND socks!? It must be fall for sure.

  4. Oh, this is LOVELY. I'm excited to see it when it's finished!
As for the quilting, I'd just do outline quilting to really call attention to piecing. It's too fabulous to obscure with "fancy" stitching.
Good luck figuring it all out.

  5. An idea on the "chain-link fence" block: straight down, through the middle of each of the white bits, and then two straight across, through the white bits? It's wonderful, no matter what you do with it! I love the piecing.

  6. Can I tell you how much I LOVE your chain link!!! I think if you stitch in JUST the white to make the chains POP it would be AMAZING!!
If you are afraid of bleeding use a shout color catcher! I NEVER pre-wash my fabrics (because I like the crinkle shrink i get) and I LOVE bright fun colours!!! I use the color catchers and have NEVER had a problem with bleeding!!!

  7. This is interesting how you are using a "quilt as you go" approach with your EPP blocks. I didn't expect that, but I like it. Very nice.

  8. On the block where you are asking for quilting advice... I would go straight through the light colored pieces to create grid lines in each direction. So the quilting is about dividing the negative space rather than emphasizing the positive elements.
