Scrappy Liberty Log Cabin

I started making log cabins using my long Liberty Lawn scraps.

I made no attempt to separate dark and light, and most of the blocks were totally random in terms of colour.  All I did in terms of planning was to avoid repeating any design within the block.

This one looked nicely yellow after the first round, so I stuck with it.  In the image above, its the one block that stands out.  In a good way or a bad way? I left it in anyway.

I ended up with 42 6 inch blocks which I put together 7 x 6 and its big enough for a cot / crib quilt.

It'm thinking about the best way to quilt it - it's so crazy and busy I don't want to add too much.

  5. It's beautiful, I don't think that block stands out too much. I made a couple of scrappy log cabin quilts last year and I think I quilted in the ditch which defined the blocks a little.

  7. What a beauty!!!! Worth many more than three exclamation points but I exercised restraint. Quilting is a tough call. Something curved could complement the straight lines, but straight lines could lend a wonderful crisp look. Have you heard of redpepperquilts? The quilter, Rita, almost always quilts a grid or straight lines and it seems like just the thing to do. Your Liberty Log Cabin quilt is very, very beautiful and I love how the eye is drawn to all the little bits of color.

  8. How gorgeous. I have to admit I was never a fan of scrappy quilts till I discovered Liberty. It lends itself beautifully to such designs and you've defintiely put your scraps to great use. I'm looking forward to seeing how you quilt this, whatever you decide to do it is going to look stunning!

  9. This is the best way to use Liberty! And a way I'm too scared to try myself lol ... How about hand tieing this one for the quilting?
